Overview
Children and adolescents can experience a wide range of emotional and behavioral difficulties — from anxiety and mood changes to conduct problems and school-related stress — often expressed differently than in adults.
Common Signs & Symptoms
- Changes in mood, irritability, or frequent tearfulness
- Withdrawal from friends, family, or usual activities
- Behavioral changes: defiance, aggression, or rule-breaking
- Decline in school performance or reluctance to attend
- Sleep or appetite changes
- Regression in younger children (e.g., toileting, clinginess)
When to Seek Help
Children often can't put feelings into words the way adults can — behavioral change itself is often the clearest signal something needs attention.
