Overview
Adjustment disorders involve an intense emotional or behavioral reaction to a stressful life event — such as a divorce, job loss, illness, or major life transition — that is out of proportion to the stressor and interferes with daily life.
Common Signs & Symptoms
- Persistent sadness, worry, or hopelessness following a specific stressor
- Difficulty functioning at work, school, or in relationships
- Withdrawal from friends, family, or usual activities
- Physical symptoms such as fatigue or sleep problems
- Symptoms appearing within three months of the stressful event
When to Seek Help
If you feel “stuck” after a difficult life event and it's been weeks without improvement, short-term structured support can make a real difference.
